Journalism

The Department of Journalism at TIUC prepares students to become ethical, versatile, and impactful storytellers in today’s fast-changing media landscape. Our programme blends theory with hands-on training in print, broadcast, and digital journalism, ensuring graduates can excel in traditional newsrooms as well as emerging online platforms.

The Department of Journalism offers a comprehensive programme that emphasizes critical thinking, investigative skills, and multimedia reporting. Students gain real-world experience through practical workshops, campus publications, and partnerships with professional media houses.

Facilities include a campus newsroom, multimedia labs, television and radio studios, and digital editing suites, giving students the environment to practice professional journalism.

Undergraduate Admission

  • Five (5) O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three other relevant subjects (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB), obtained in not more than two sittings.

  • A satisfactory UTME score in relevant subjects such as English, Literature, Government, or related fields.

  • Direct Entry candidates must hold two A-Level passes, OND, NCE, or equivalent qualifications accepted by TIUC.

  • Awaiting result candidates may apply, but admission will be conditional until results are submitted.

Postgraduate Admission

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, or related disciplines with at least a Second Class Lower Division.

  • Transcripts and academic/professional references are required.

  • For Ph.D. applicants: a Master’s degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.5/5.0 in journalism or related fields, plus a research proposal.
